Q: What is acupuncture really doing in the patient?

A: Let’s start with what common problems patients are having -

Pain - Inflammation - Decreased Range of Motion - Decreased Comfort / Diffifulty rising, sitting, walking Quality Of Life.   

Q: How does it work?

A: Insertion of a needle into a specific anatomical location with highly dense concentrations of: 

·      Free Nerve Endings

·      Low Resistance (electrical conduction)

·      Arterioles/Venules (little blood vessels in the area)

·      Lymphatics (the way the body manages swelling and excess liquid called edema)

·      Mast Cells (special cells that are in the signaling cascade of inflammation)

Q: Then what happens in the body?

A: The local stimulation of the point reduces inflammation and signals pathways in the body to relieve pain,

and increase mobility 

Distant effects include increasing the release of seratonin, dopamine, beta endorphins, enkephalins - natural pain relieving hormones and neurotransmitters in the body.
